Ms. Jo Crider Named 2011 Williston Citizen of the Year

TOWN OF WILLISTON

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, Mrs. Jo Crider, has served the children and citizens of Williston in many ways over the years; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Jo Crider has been a devoted wife to Mr. Jay for 44 years and is also the proud mother of son Bryan and daughter Karen and proud grandmother of 6 grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Jo Crider, is an active member of the Elko Baptist Church for 17years and has served as librarian for many years. She also continues to honor her country and community in both church and civic activities such as preparing prison packages and participating in other outreach programs; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Jo Crider has been the Librarian for the Town of Williston’s Library for 14 years in which she has touched many children and adults’ lives by facilitating and giving them the opportunity to expand their reading endeavors; and

NOW THEREFORE, I, THOMAS R. RIVERS, Mayor of Williston, South Carolina, do proclaim Mrs. Jo Crider as Citizen of the Year for 2011.

Best Dressed Elf Contest

The Town of Williston will hold a contest to choose two helpers to ride with Santa in the Annual Christmas Parade and pass out candy.

Children in 1st – 5th grades are invited to dress in their best Elf attire and compete for the chance to ride with Santa in his sleigh.  Judges will be on hand to choose the two best dressed elves. 

The contest will be held on November 19, 2011 at the Williston Town Hall at 10AM.  There is no fee.

The New Town Of Williston Website Is ‘Live’

The new Town of Williston website is ‘live’. The address is: http://www.williston-sc.com The main new features of the website are are the capability to make online utility payments, downloadable forms, searchable downloadable zoning and general ordinances, photo galleries and the updated history. One unique item in the railroad history is a video of Johnny Cash telling the story of the Best Friend of Charleston. Bob Cothran reworked and updated most of the town history and the Charleston Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society assisted with the railroad history. The Charleston Chapter NRHS provided the Johnny Cash video.
